Pros:–Unbeatable price following seller coupon coupled with a bank card incentive. This is my first experience with Umidigi phones and it has been positive. Clean looking OS out of the box, very little bloatware installed from vendors and certainly won't miss all the game apps–Big consideration for me was this model supports a broad range of GSM 4G LTE bandwidths, including 66 and 71. Wanted to feel comfortable it would be fully compatible with Cricket Wireless and MetroPCS. Dual band 802.11ac wifi support is a bonus, many competitors only support single band b/g/n–Smoothly transferred existing nano SIM card from Nokia 3.1C activated on Cricket wireless, but did have to manually use blue tooth connection between phones to transfer the contact list, only one phone is NFC compatible. Now receiving constant 5 full signal bars inside my house where I never had more than 3 with the Nokia without walking outside. MicroSDXC card, SanDisk Extreme, 64GB, rated read 160/write 60, U3, V30, A2, formatted FAT32–The benefits of the AMOLED display will help offset Umidigi's low 720x1548 pixel resolution, mine has vibrant colors, true blacks and good contrast. Much better display colors by adjusting: Settings/Accessibility/Color Correction. Turn it On.–Decided this purchase would be an unlocked phone because Android and carriers manipulate how we install and configure apps and add home screen widgets–4GB of RAM is sufficient for most users, this model with 128GB ROM is good for users who store many files (pics, videos, TMs) on their phones. Read professional reviews, 4GB is good, 6GB would be nice and is preferred by gamers, but draws down the battery charge sooner–Three rear cameras will offer more creativity with still pics but users are advised to experiment with the features before relying on the cameras for serious pictures–Professional reviews state this model is supposed to receive the Android 10 update, we'll have to follow Umidigi to be certain they deliver on the marketing hype–This model supports wifi calling, NFC and fast cable but not wireless charging–Umidigi has released at least two software updates, in Oct and Nov, addressing expressed consumer complaints pertaining to fingerprint sensor issues. Still leery about fingerprint and facial recognition security, so will continue using lock screen patterns/codes--As of 02/29/2020 and six months of ownership, no serious issues or hiccups mentioned by others except keyboard touch sensitivity resulting in repeated charactersCons:–Biggest annoyance so far is highly sensitive touch screen, difficult swiping with finger or stylus without accidentally highlighting areas you didn't intend and numerous repeated letters when texting. Have not found internet solution to adjust keyboard sensitivity. After six months of use, have decided to remove another star due to the keystroke repeat and delay in release of Android 10 update.–Included user manual is very basic, Umidigi has not posted anything more substantial if there is one as of06/17/2020 Not documented anywhere but think I found solution to overly sensitive keyboard repeating keystrokes: Tinker with a few of these settings and you'll get the screen touch right for you: Tap App Info, back arrow left, scroll to bottom System, Language & Input, Gboard, Preferences. I turned OFF "Haptic feedback on keypress" and "Popup on Keypress"; turned ON "Long Press for Symbols" and changed "Key Long Press Delay" to 110ms. These adjustments seem to be working for me and I might fine tune it more over time. Added a Star to review02/29/2020–Umidigi X is relatively new, few third party protective covers are available, that should improve. Always prefer and highly recommend using wallet folio cases for best protection against damage. Found one, seller shipped from China on same day as ordered, arrived in 10 days, perfect fit and reduces likelihood of activating side volume/power controls.05/13/2020--Grateful Umidigi just released a May 9, 2020 security and camera HDR enhancement update, arrived on my phone May 13. Still no sign of the Android X upgrade and we're getting closer to the Android 11 release this Fall.Other thoughts:–This model includes bluetooth v4.2, surprised so many phones in this price range still offer bluetooth v4.1, a real deal breaker. My Nokia has the latest v5.0--Would like to purchase the S3 Pro but hesitant due to what I'm experiencing with model X. The newer S5 Pro is overly priced and the A7 Pro is puny with the P23 CPU.
SO I've had the phone about an hour now and I'm totally in love. It came with a case AND screen protector already ON the phone. By far the nicest shipping for any phone I've gotten. The fingerprint scanner works very well, and the camera is INSANE (the two main reasons I bought this phone over any other). I don't really know much else about the phone, like battery life, durability, etc, but I will say I've been on it nonstop for almost an hour and a half, now,and the batter has only dropped 10%, which is fairly decent. I'll try to edit this in about a month, for a more accurate review, but this impressed me very early on.Alright, update 5ish months inThis phone is STURDY. I have a history of grip issues. I've dropped this thing on concrete and it's survived (though I don't recommend!), it's a good phone. The call quality kinda turns wonky after you pass a certain volume (I think it's anything above 3 and you can't understand anything) which is perfect for me, I can't stand loud calls, but for people like my mom and sister, who are hoh, this phone is a nightmare without earbuds to assist. After the first update my fingerprint scanner bugged out and stopped working. I tried deleting and re-adding my prints, but it seems determined to stop, but the face ID is still spot on and, more often than not, will recognize me in under a second. It has NOT unlocked for my sister, who looks almost identical to me.The battery life is insane. I've recently gotten a new dog and I'm on the night shift watching him (he likes to let himself out for walks at midnight), meaning my phone I'd in constant use from about 8am to probably 5 or 6am. As long as I'm not streaming video after video after video, the batter will stay above 30% for most of that time. I only had to charge it once in two days (I keep my charger on the opposite side of the house where I've been staying, cause of the dog) .
All in all, I can think this phone is great, but there are a few negatives.Positives:- Price is pretty damned good for a flagship level phone- The phone has a solid build and works well- Comes with a built-in screen protector (be careful not to remove it when first unboxing)- Also comes with a decent case with good grip- Seems pretty fast. Benchmarks show it's about half the speed of the Samsung S10 (SM_G973U). I have yet to run into any performance issues, but I'm not a big gamer.- Lots of RAM adds to performance- Charges fast- Pretty good screen- Easy to root- Big battery. I can get through one day and most of the next day- Lots of storage at 128GB- Can take an mSD card for more storage- 2 back cameras: Regular + 2X telephoto- Full featured camera app that works well- Has a built in process killer to restrict background apps, but use wisely. It wlll break some apps, especially widgets- Works with Verizon and other carriers- Fingerprint reader works well and is pretty accurate- IT HAS AN HEADPHONE JACK!!! (yes, some of us still care about that)Negatives:- No image stabilization on camera.- Curved screen doesn't allow for glass screen protectors, and other screen protector options are limited (It does come with a screen protector pre-applied)- Hard to find accessories because it's not a popular model (USA).- Slightly heavy because of big battery, but not too bad.- Slippery finish, but a the case fixes that.- No wide angle camera- I had to do a lot of fiddling to get it working right. It would not update apps from the app store, and a lot of apps did not work at first. I'm a techie, so I was able to work through it all but this might put some people off.- Sometimes the bluetooth audio cuts out for 1 second. This might be a problem on my end but I have read others reporting the same.
this phone is amazing, definitely recommend to buy it.
I need a phone mainly as a backup, so I am looking for a good budget phone. This A11s actually surpassed my expectation. To certain extent, I am surprised by how beautiful (design-wise) this phone is, it has good screen size and the back cover is amazing. This is a budget phone and simply get the job done for me: communication, watch movies, social networking, finance, stock trading, Maps, etc ... I am not a heavy gamers though, so I am very impressed how well this phone has been performing. The quality of the screen, speaker and camera can't be compared with the high-end phones obviously, but for every day's use, there is no complaint from me.Pros:1. Probably the best bang for your buck phone that I can find. I had used many phones before.2. Beautifully designed phone.3. Phone case and screen protector are included.Cons:1. Not compatible with AT&T and Verizon (as stated in the description), but it is fully compatible with T-Mobile.2. Feel a little bit heavy but not too bad.P.S.1. There are several reviews saying the phone can't be connected to the carrier or the phone call can only be heard one way, etc ... These are all the symptoms that you have the incompatible carriers, there is nothing wrong with the phone's hardware. I recommend you use the phone in the T-Mobile or related carrier networks such as Mint Mobile, etc ...2. I take out a star for not compatible with AT&T and Verizon.
Umidigi S3 pro is a relatively unknown phone. I had purchased a Samsung Galaxy A70 and when I was away from wifi realized I only got 3g. I would have preferred the A70 to this phone but it is incompatible in USA.The phone is very well made. I love the ceramic back and sides. Feels like a large Essential phone but with a much better camera. If Umidigi can support this device for 2 years with updates then they have a serious chance of disrupting the market. Biggest downside to Chinese phones is updates, unless it is OnePlus or Xiaomi you can forget updates. This phone is actually better than Essential phone in that the camera is better, screen is bigger, battery is way better and a headphone jack. You get a light skin version of Android pie. I had an update as soon as I first set the phone up. Had some initial wifi problems but seems to be better now. It is pretty much a stock Android experience. I like that. Software seems stable and responsive. The large screen is LCD in full HD. It is a beautiful screen. Best full HD LCD screen I have used. The large internal storage and ram paired with a surprisingly good Mediatek chipset offer pretty fast performance.Large battery is great.Cellular reception seems fine so far with 4g on Mint mobile in socal.Phone comes with a preinstalled tempered glass screen protector and case. Has a nice braided USB c cord and 18 watt fast charge.Speaker is standard for lower cost device. It works fine.3.5mm headphone jack is a plus.Final consideration is SAR value. I can't find anything and that is concerning. I know it is certified to be used in USA because of Indiegogo campaign. It would be really nice for Umidigi to print that info somewhere on the instructions. Finally, the box it came in was very nicely packed and the phone is nicely presented. You feel like you are getting something nice and when you open it up you aren't disappointed. In the lower mid range the competition is fierce and always changing. For now I think this device is a great deal. I love it. Just understand that there may be some trade offs for the price. If you are okay with it, i.e. unknown track record of brand, updates, proper documentation then you really can't go wrong. It has a great screen, big battery, feels fast, excellent build quality, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and decent camera. Probably best in price range. Pixel is over $100 more for the base model. Moto G7 is nice but not as fast or as well built. So I think it is a solid choice.
There are bargains and then there are ridiculous deals like this. I actually bought this phone for myself. I chanced on the brand because most of the cool unlocked phones you see on YouTube don't actually work in the USA because they usually have the normal odd number bands activated and here in the good ol USofA the Telco cartel uses even number channels. So you can buy a Pocophone but you won't get 4G LTE if you use T-Mobil or At&T. The Umidigi phones are different. They have all the channels unlocked and it has a dual SIM carrier which means you can have a US SIM and a Mexican SIM in the same phone and they will use the correct channels. The Umidigi S3 Pro has virtually all the channels unlocked! Let me say that again. All the CHANNELS ARE UNLOCKED! This is a world class device that will work in any country with their local provider. This is huge and as far as I know unique to this brand.Ok, onto the rest. The screen is really really good and anybody who whines that it's not AMOLED just needs to grow up. Did you check the price at the door? The fingerprint reader is in the correct place and is secure and almost instant. It works great every time. Face ID is not secure and annoying and under screen readers are even more insecure, slow and prone to contamination. The camera is very good for what normal people use it for and yes you can hack the Pixel code into it but why bother. It works fine as is. It has more memory and storage than most people will ever use and for those that really need more just slap an SD card into it. It's fast with no lag and it has worked flawlessly since the day it arrived. And now the big one. The freakishly huge battery. My wife had bought a couple of months previously the new Moto G7 in black. After the third day I started to hear complaints about how it keeps running out of battery. Yes, she's a heavy user and she has a long commute and she likes to use her smartphone as a tablet of an evening. And the G7 just didn't have the juice. I mentioned to her that my new S3 has a battery that's almost twice the size of her G7 and then I uttered "Do you want to try it?". I mean I'd only had it a day and of course she said "It's all black isn't it? Ok, let me try it out". That's the moment I lost my S3 Pro. No more complaining about battery life. She doesn't mind that it's a bit thicker. In fact it's easier to hold according to her. I'm now relegated to the Moto G7 which as a light user I still use half the battery life every day.The Umidigi S3 Pro is an absolute bargain and I strongly recommend it, just don't talk about it in front of your wife. Two recommendations to Umidigi. 1, change your name back to Umi. Umidigi does not sound good. 2, encourage case makers to give us alternatives to the black TPU case you supply. The case is good but a bit low rent.Ok, 5 months on and the S3 Pro is still rocking it and my wife still loves it. I'm coming to hate the Moto G7 with it's continual lockups and stuttering. Buy the S3 Pro, you won't be disappointing.
Love the color
Update: Six months in: So this phone is still excellent and most non-heinous. BUT unfortunately the company seems to only release updates the first few months after a phone is released. Because of this and ONLY because of this I got a OnePlus 7t about 3 weeks ago. And I love that phone, but there are really only a few things that the 7t does that are any better. Like the rear camera (selfie cam on the umidigi is equal if not better IMO), the display is also a bit better and WAY brighter, but the 7t is almost 1000 NITS at full brightness.....yes 1000!!!! And I LOVE tap to wake, IMO it's really the only reason I prefer an AMOLED display. Other then that though, daily use is shocking similar. The umidigi even has the ability to switch between buttons and gesture navigation like Android 10 phone's do. Then there's the 90hz display on the 7t, which is nice but is brutal on the 7t's cute little baby 3,800 mAh battery. And this is the only area where one of the 2 phone's blows the other out of the water, the ONLY thing that is game changingly (yes, I said game changingly), drastically different, battery life is far superior on this amazing little piece of tech that could. I have been spoiled. Now I get home from work with my 65 to 70% battery and I'm like "how did I go through 35% of my battery in only 9 hours??" It's ridiculous how long the S3 Pro's battery lasts. Don't get me wrong, I think the 7t actually gets pretty decent battery life but I got so used to just not having to charge my phone for a couple days that now it just seems pathetic. I still find myself using the umidigi every day in an attempt to make my battery last at least a day and a half. If umidigi provided this little monster with even halfway decent update support I can't guarantee I would choose to daily drive the 7t over it. And go look up top 10 phone's of 2019 and I'd bet at least half of those lists have the 7t or the 7pro in the top spot, top 3 at the very least. Umidigi should be ashamed, they released an awesome phone at an awesome price that no one will remember because they couldn't be bothered to just update the F#$@ing thing. Poor little guy.Gonna give it a little bit of time before I start praising it too much and say that I'm never buying a traditional phone you can buy here in Merica. But if it doesn't just randomly crap out on me in under a year (last three phones I've bought from LG and T-Mobile have barely lasted long enough for the warranty to end. What a strange coincidence eh?) Then I absolutely will say that. Amazing phone even more amazing price. This phone is most NON heinous! BE EXCELLENT TO EACH OTHER AND PARTY ON DUDES!!!!
that's about it. Nice build quality but I returned it in about a week. My (6 year) old Samsung Galaxy Note 4 outshines it in just about every area. Screen - no comparison (QHD AMOLED on the Samsung kills). 12 or 16 MP camera in the Samsung smokes the 48MP in the S3. On the good side the 5150mah battery is great (but Samsung has an interchangeable battery. Featurewise the Samsung does things that S3 can't but of course the S3 covers more bands. And a used Samsung Note 4 still bring a couple hundred bucks even now.... a huge user base that love the Note 4.... still.Buy it for what it is and you will be quite happy with it. Buy it expecting anything extraordinary because of the 48MP camera and you will likely be disappointed. They have been working on camera software upgrades to try to get the quality improved but so far no go. The improvements have not materialized despite several updates. I wish it had lived up to my expectations. Flagship.... no, well it looks like one, but it doesn't perform like one. It's a very nicely built, mid-tier camera... and the ceramic back give it a premium, solid feel and look and the high capacity battery is really convenient as well. I hope Umidigi gets the bugs worked out and maybe spends a little more time with the firmware. The hardware is solid.... not exceptional, but a phone is for the most part a computer.... and it is the software that makes it all work.
This is an amazing phone at a price that is lower than the budget phones from US mobile carriers. The Umidigi A11S has a fast processor, great battery life, better-than-expected camera, and premium build & features.Processor: This totally surprised me. The quad-core processor was not from a brand that I was too familiar with, but when using the phone, apps opened and closed quickly, and had no problems with lagging when editing documents in Google apps or playing games (of course, not graphics-intensive games).Battery: Phone has a massive battery that actually lasted through 2 days of normal use for me. This included multiple phone calls, normal number of social media posts, several hours reading on the Kindle app, etc. For a phone at this price, the battery life is better than premium phones from Samsung and Apple.Camera: To be truthful, I was not expecting to be impressed with the quality of the photos. I am just a regular person and not a photo Pro, but via visual comparisons, photos from the Umidigi A11S were on par with my wife's Samsung S21 Ultra. I could not believe it and my wife was not happy the clarity of the photos were comparable to her phone that cost her 8x more. LOL.Build & Features: Feels premium in the hand and has a good weight, so does not feel cheaply made. Very happy the phone has a Type-C port for charging and a micro-SD slot, something that most premium phones are now lacking. The phone has a shortcut key on the left side that you can customize for quick access to any app. I use it to quickly open the camera app. Surprised it has Face Unlock. It works well but I prefer to use the fast fingerprint scanner.Overall, I highly recommend the Umidigi A11S to anyone looking for a phone who only has a limited budget. Or maybe as a second phone or one for their kids.
